Finker-Frenkel Family Foundation Hosts Luncheon for Bal Harbour Police After Surfside Condominium Collapse
MIAMI, Fla. — July 28th, 2021 — In the wake of the Champlain Towers South condominium collapse in Surfside, Fla. on June 23, 2021, officers from the neighboring Bal Harbour Police Department volunteered to help Surfside police as they cleared the debris, directed traffic away from the accident site, and secured the area.
To thank the Bal Harbour officers for their hard work during this difficult time, The Finker-Frenkel Family Foundation provided a hot lunch for on-duty Bal Harbour officers, who were working to help mitigate this heartbreaking situation on behalf of their community.
The luncheon, made possible through a collaboration with Miami-area chef Mark Fiore, took place a week after the collapse on Wednesday, June 30th, 2021, and lasted throughout the day. Officers on break from duty were able to stop by and enjoy a warm, delicious meal of Hamachi beef, rice, salad and bread rolls, listen to music, and socialize with one another before heading back out to work.
“It was an honor to support the brave men and women on the Bal Harbour police force who have been working around the clock to provide assistance to those affected by this unspeakable tragedy,” said Raul Cabrera, spokesperson for the Finker-Frenkel Family Foundation. “This is an incredibly painful time for our community, and the Bal Harbour police department stepped up to the plate to ensure the safety of Bal Harbour and Surfside residents. Providing on-duty officers with a fresh, hot meal was truly the least we could do to thank them for their service.”
The Finker-Frenkel Family Foundation has long supported the Bal Harbour Police department in other charitable endeavors. In 2019, a gift from the Foundation enabled the Bal Harbour Police Legacy Foundation to send supplies and volunteers to the Bahamas in the wake of Hurricane Dorian and provide every child at Miami’s Phillis Wheatley Elementary School with a personalized holiday gift.
